18k Yellow Gold / Diamond (0.14ct) / 13mm x 22mm
Envisioned as a female counterpart to Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, volcanos, and metalworking, the lovely and enigmatic Vulcana took shape as gradually as the sculpture itself. Her face emerged from clay, with references to Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus” and in the Terry Gilliam film, “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen,” a Lent family favorite. Vulcana conveys all the power of hammer and forge, smoke and fire, but nevertheless retains the sense of humor Tony shares with Gilliam about the meanings and uses of art.
